My mom’s favorite holiday is Thanksgiving. When we were younger, she made us promise no matter where we were, who we married, or where we lived, we would come home to her for Thanksgiving. When I worked for the military, I traveled from coast to coast to come home each Thanksgiving.
As we all started families of our own, the tradition of planning Thanksgiving was passed to me. So every year, I orchestrate Thanksgiving get “togethers”, suggest the menu, and whether it be the entire meal together as a family or carving out desert time together, we find a way to make it home to my mom. I think it is important because no matter how much changes, we find one constant in life.
While we are thankful every day for the many things we are blessed with, it’s always a special time of the year to outwardly express our appreciation for a bond we hold dearly- our family!
“At times our own light goes out and is rekindled by a spark from another person. Each of us has cause to think with deep gratitude of those who have lighted the flame within us.” — Albert Schweitzer
