Senior Writer

Location: San Bruno, CA


This position is responsible for translating business objectives into compelling, actionable copy that prompts the customer to make a purchase decision and for concepting high-level customer-focused storytelling that offers beneficial solutions to customer pain points.  Some degree of personnel management and relationship management may be required.


  • Conceptualize and writes engaging content for creative initiatives, campaigns and projects (for example, point-of-view advertisements, marketing campaigns, landing pages) by creating benefit- and feature-oriented messaging, ensuring on-brand consistency
  • Developing copy for vendors (for example, content and advertising agencies) and contributes to the development of the content strategy by keeping up-to-date on industry trends, best practices and the competitive landscape
  • Collaborating with management, business owners and other cross functional stakeholders to translate business objectives into actionable marketing messages
  • Writing copy for strategic program components
  • Aligning products enhancements with company’s marketing goals and partnering with producers, designers and business owners to deploy efficient workflow processes
  • Develops creative briefs into compelling marketing assets or short articles (500-800 words) that are designed to educate, inform and inspire company website’s visitors
  • Proposes alternate story angles as needed
  • Writes about a wide range of topics, products and company services and site features
  • Collaborates with designers to adapt copy to fit within layout
  • Takes design needs and constraints into account when creating copy and ideating concepts
  • Partners with company copy editor to resolve any writing or grammar issues she identifies
  • Contributes to ideation sessions organized by the content managers
  • Participates as part of a team in the quality assurance phases of projects to help ensure that all final copy has been correctly implemented online
  • Adept at applying best practices as they pertain to mobile technology, apps and other technology used by consumers to research and purchase products
  • Maintains company content guidelines and style guides by ensuring consistency and quality across the site experience; aligning company and vendor content with established brand standards and maintaining and evolving the content tone and voice of the company
  • Coordinates, completes and oversees job-related activities and assignments by developing and maintaining relationships with key stakeholders; supporting plans and initiatives to meet customer and business needs
  • Identifying and communicating goals and objectives
  • Building accountability for and measuring progress in achieving results; identifying and addressing improvement opportunities and demonstrating adaptability and promoting continuous learning

Minimum Qualifications

  • BA degree in Journalism, Creative Writing, Advertising or related field and 2 years’ experience in copywriting OR 4 years’ experience in copywriting

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 3 years’ experience copywriting in a retail environment
  • 2 years’ experience copywriting in an online creative or related digital field
  • 3 years’ experience working for or with creative agencies
  • 2 years’ experience copywriting for online brand initiatives
  • 2 years’ experience developing copy concepts in a retail or marketing environment
